New speedo swim suit

Speedo SculptureFor a long time I’ve been talking to Ian about how badly I want to get back into swimming and waterpolo again. I know it’s not realistic to get back into waterpolo again now that I’ve really f*cked up my neck. The last couple of years that I still played my neck was already playing up every now and then causing me to miss matches and training. After our car accident I know for sure that my neck would not be able to handle it. I try not to think about it too much, because deep down it hurts knowing that I won’t play again.

Since our car accident I have only been into a swimming pool once and that was about 4 weeks after the accident. I did not do any swimming, only playing with my little nephew in the toddlers pool. I can’t believe that it’s been over a year since I’ve swam my last lap. Me… the swim addict hasn’t done any swimming for over a year. It’s shocking!!!

So I’ve decided that I want to go to the swimming pool and TRY. See how my neck will hold up if I swim a couple of km’s. I grabbed my bag with my swim gear today and guess what? Every thing was there except for my swim suit. WTF? I have no idea where it is and I am not in the mood to go looking for it either. I have dozens of swimmers still laying in Holland but here I only had one. So I decided to do something that always makes me happy; go buy a new one.

I didn’t feel like looking for one at the mall because the sports shop doesn’t sell that much swim wear in the winter. So I had a look around on Ebay and found a nice one. It’s a speedo sculpture swim suit which means it kind of hides the wobbly bits, which is perfect for me since I gained some kilo’s after the car accident. And the price was very good. Can’t get much cheaper than that.

Two Beautiful Gold Medals for Holland

Netherland wins waterpolo gold in BeijingIt doesn’t get any better than this! Two gold medals for Holland in the water. Maarten van der Weijden got the first gold medal today with a magnificent win on the 10 kilometers open water swimming.

This guy is a hero!!! He survived the battle with leukemia and came back to clinch to first gold medal on this sport debut at the Olympics in Beijing. A true inspiration for everyone.

And the second gold medal for Holland went to the waterpolo girls. As an old waterpolo player I was hoping that our girls would get for, but no one expected them to get this far.

They showed lots of skill, fighting spirit and determination. After kicking the Italians out of the tournament they defeated Hungary in the semi-finals to kick some more arse in the finals by beating the world champions United States by 9-8.

What a wonderful day for the Dutchies!!!

Smoke Free

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Did I mention yet how proud I am of Ian? First he stopped taking his Oxycontin medication and now he has FINALLY stopped smoking. As a kid I always said that I would never marry a smoker, but like they say… Never say never. He has tried to stop smoking before; a couple of years ago, but he didn’t persevere back then. Hopefully now he will. He’s been smoke free for over 2 weeks now and that makes me just so happy!! Not only are cigarettes very unhealthy, they also stink and cost way too much money!

Below a little reminder of how well he’s doing!
